Tablet "Fire HD 10 Plus" for the first time in 8 years is insanely active every day by Satoshi Hinuma

The first tablet I bought was Google's Nexus 10 in 2013. At first, I was impressed with "It's really crispy and high performance!", But as time went on, the operation became heavier, the battery ran out, and it didn't start up, so I used to fertilize the closet in a few years. In the ever-increasing world of smart devices, it is unavoidable that hardware will become obsolete as new OSs and applications appear.

"Nexus 10" dug out of the closet. The power was turned on, but the backlight flashed and the startup animation was repeated all the time.

Since then, my home has been absent from tablets. However, I continued to feel that it would be convenient to have a 10-inch class tablet. Especially for the past year or two, I've been cycling indoors almost every day, so I wanted to spend some time watching videos during that training.

I use a virtual cycling software called Zwift for indoor cycling, and of course I see the screen, but the only thing I have to pay attention to is a race event where I run at full power. Other than that, when I run with a certain load for workouts, I can afford to do other things, so I would like to watch the video. I always run for about an hour, so it's a waste to do nothing during that time.

Only race events like this really run. There is plenty of room to watch videos during training called SST (Sweet Spot Training) and recovery runs.

Then which tablet should you choose? There are too many types in the 10-inch class, and of course there is a big difference in price depending on the performance. If you want to use it as a substitute for a notebook PC for work, or if you want to play games hard, you will need to choose a high-spec model that is pricey.

However, my use is almost completely video only. The only thing left is to browse the Web for a while. It should be as cheap as possible with specifications that can handle video playback such as YouTube and Netflix. However, too cheap ones cannot be expected in terms of OS updates, etc., and it is possible that they will soon become unusable. It is important that it can be used as a device for a long time. So-called sustainability (not).

That's why, if I find a tablet that seems to be a candidate on Amazon for a while, I will add it to the "wish list", but I can not put out 30,000 or 40,000 just for the video ... I couldn't make it, but the "Fire HD 10 Plus" released in May 2021 touched the chord. The model with 32GB of storage is as cheap as the high 10,000 yen range. I feel that 4GB of memory is small nowadays, but I'm sure there will be no problem if you just play videos. Amazon's products should have some ongoing updates.

So, I bought it with a genuine wireless charging stand for a total of 22,980 yen. To make it easier to watch while cycling indoors, I also got a tablet holder to fix it to the handlebar of the bicycle so that I can watch the video comfortably even when riding the bicycle. As a result, I watch videos every day more than I expected. Considering the distance from the steering wheel, the 5-6 type smartphone has a too small screen to enjoy, but the 10 type tablet is just right. I would like to insist that it is the best size for watching videos while riding a bicycle.

And the style of watching while lying down on a general-purpose stand has become a standard usage before going to bed. How happy it is to be able to enjoy the video while weakening the whole body and fall asleep as it is. This is also the comfort of a 10-inch tablet. I don't recommend it because the risk of accidental falling is not zero.

By the way, the Fire HD 10 Plus isn't without its complaints. For example, when using Bluetooth earphones together, the symptom that the sound is intermittently interrupted during video playback sometimes appears. I'm not sure because touching the screen may or may not fix it for some reason. There have been several OS updates, but it doesn't improve at all, so it seems that memory shortage is affecting it.

Also, because the screen is large, it is easy to sweat depending on the riding posture during indoor cycling. It was ideal if it was waterproof (salt-resistant), but I'm thinking about extending the arm of the tablet holder by a few centimeters because it's something I don't have.

The rest is a genuine wireless charging stand. Why can't I fold it into such a big habit? It's fun to be able to charge the battery just by leaning it against it, but it's not suitable for carrying around the room, and I don't like the fact that it takes up a lot of space when not in use. I feel that a non-genuine general-purpose wireless charger was also good.

Did this big wireless charging stand get a little better?

It may be a bottleneck that it is based on Android OS but does not support Google Play as standard. I have no choice but to close my eyes, but if it's only for video playback, I'm sure you won't find it inconvenient. I'm hoping that Amazon's app store will be a little more complete, but I'm sure Fire HD 10 Plus will continue to play an active role every day after 2022 until it reaches the end of its hardware life.
