Steve Huffman, CEO of Reddit, a major US community site (Reddit's username is spez), responded on August 26 (local time) to a request to clean up misinformation about COVID-19. issued a statement that it would not impose such restrictions.
In a post titled "Reddit Debates, Dissents, and Protests," the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the best and most up-to-date source of information on COVID-19. Disagreeing with 's opinion does not violate Reddit's policy. “Dissent is part of Reddit and the foundation of our democracy. Reddit is a forum for open and genuine discussion and debate. It also includes conversations that involve
Huffman didn't mention a specific community in his statement, but it was posted on a subreddit that gathers information about anti-vax. Also, it seems to be in response to a thread asking Reddit to crack down on misinformation. It has gained more than 170,000 approvals in one day since posting, and it is showing great excitement. The thread criticized the current response, saying that if people were dying as a result of information posted on Reddit, there would be no room for mercy and Reddit should be held accountable.
In this regard, I have stated that I will not remove false information (opinions that anti-vaccine and masks are meaningless), but it does not mean that I will accept false information without restriction. It is a policy violation to engage in fraudulent practices to amplify a particular opinion and is against such community and rules such as fraudulent practices (such as fake vaccination cards) and behaviors that promote harm (such as bleach vaccination). Violating communities will continue to be excluded in the future.
It's still a protracted problem, but I'd like to pay attention to what Reddit finds as a major platform.
